The research expertise in this area is recognised throughout the university, particularly within the DCU Further Education and Training Research Centre and the DCU Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education.
Eucen is the largest European association focused on university lifelong learning and continuing education, boasting over 32 years of experience. With a vast network spanning 800 institutions in Europe and 300 in America, and affiliations with over 3,000 organizations, eucen is a key player in the field. Established in Belgium in 1991 and headquartered in Barcelona since 2000, the association aims to enhance university lifelong learning, actively engaging in EU-level policy development through lobbying and dialogue. Eucen achieves its objectives through events, EU-funded projects, and publications that contribute to shaping European policies and practices related to university lifelong learning
Established in Brussels in 2013, the Foundation for Global Governance and Sustainability (FOGGS) is a transnational think-and-do tank, serving at the same time as research and ideas-generation centre, discussion forum and advocacy mechanism. FOGGS is a Public Benefit Foundation under Belgian law. It aims to develop and promote a Grand Narrative of hope, for a people-centred, planet-friendly, inclusive and sustainable globalisation in a digital world; help address major global challenges through a revamped global governance system and engaged, responsible and informed global citizens; and ensure that the rapid and transformative technological and digital advances contribute to a more just and equitable world, with a better life for all people.
The Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki excels in impactful research, ranking 21st in QS World University Rankings 2022. It shares a Centre of Excellence, Music, Mind, Body and Brain, with the University of Jyväskylä. Its research, spanning human growth, teaching and learning, and education systems, explores the roles of education in individual, societal, and democratic development. The faculty’s activities examine how the understanding of human nature and learning evolves, and its research is conducted in nine dynamic communities, representing various educational science paradigms, themes, and methodologies. These communities foster networks, support career advancement, and contribute actively to Faculty operations.
Stichting IPA (Parents International) is an independent research, advocacy and training organisation established with the mission of supporting parents around the world to become game-changers by helping their children to grow up happy and healthy 21st century citizens. It is believed that responses to global and local challenges can be improved by drawing upon existing experiences through wider communication and cooperation among parents all over the world. Parents International provides a forum whereby experienced parents’ representatives (active and formal), professionals, (including teachers, social workers, researchers, psychologists, teacher trainers, economists, students, policy makers, youth workers,) who are interested in supporting parents, can contribute to a global parents’ alliance that works for the best interest and well-being of children all over the world
Notus Applied Social Research was created as a non-profit independent association of professionals in 2013. Its work includes developing studies and reports, giving technical assistance to public and private entities to design, manage and evaluate policies and programmes, as well as organising seminars and workshops. Notus develops research activities using scientifically rigorous methodologies with an interdisciplinary approach with the aim of providing technical assistance to public and private sector actors committed to gender equality, social inclusion and sustainability. Notus develops its activities at the local, regional, national, European and international levels. Its main thematic areas are employment and labour relations, qualifications and training, local development, poverty and social inclusion and gender.
Tallinn University (TLU) is the third largest public university in EstoniaTLU employees are organised into five focus fields: educational innovation; digital and media culture; cultural competences; healthy and sustainable lifestyle; society and open governance. TLU is awarded several national fields of responsibility, one of which is politics and civics. The team of the DEMOCRAT project is based at the TLU School of Governance, Law and Society. TLU has long research traditions in integration and citizenship studies as well as political studies that the current research team continues. TLU is also the leading university in Estonia for educational sciences and teacher training. The DEMOCRAT project is collaborating closely with the Centre for Innovation in Education alongside multiple partners from outside the university.
Universitat de Barcelona (UB) was founded in 1450. The UB ranks the first Spanish university, manages an average of 150 European projects per year. DEMOCRAT is carried out by a research team of the Faculty of Economics and Business, which is a leading centre for tuition in economics, business, sociology and statistics, and can claim to be the foremost faculty in these disciplines in Catalonia. Members of the project team are also members of the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB), founded in 2001 within the UB. The IEB is a research centre whose goals are to promote and disseminate work in Applied Economics, and to contribute to debate and the decision-making process in Economic Policy.
Hochschule Düsseldorf – University of Applied Sciences (HSD for short) was founded on 1 August 1971 by combining several renowned regional educational institutions. Today, HSD is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary range of subjects. The educational and research emphasis at HSD has a strong practical and interdisciplinary approach. The university curriculum is strongly concentrated on the areas of design, technology, the social sector and business studies. The emphasis is put on architecture and design, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical and process engineering, media, social sciences and cultural studies as well as business studies.
Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow is the centre of Krakow’s sociology and one of the most important sociological centres in Poland. Its scientific and educational activities reflect both the rich tradition and the current, diverse research interests of lecturers, PhD students and students of the Institute. The Institute of Sociology is one of the leading research centres in Poland. It carries out important research, scientific and educational projects, and undertakes cooperation with the local community, national institutions and entities, as well as partners in the international networks. The current research and scientific projects respond to the challenges of a changing world, including projects on education, diversity, inclusion and citizenship.
